Praise for the Orange AD30R

I posted once saying I saw an Orange 2x12 AD30 with Vintage 30s eat up a 4x12 amp when I watched the band that opened when we played the Knitting Factory.

Well, today I played one - and it's even better in my own hands. This had V30s, and it was so warm and juicy I would hav SWORN it was Greenbacks or G12H30s. It was sooooo warm, balanced crunch, with a BRITISH signature mid style. The best part? It sounds rich and smooth. Feel is incredible. Volume is good. BTW the verb was pretty decent, too.

I have already watched a band tear the house down with one.

All of us always claim that in live settings it really doesn't matter what you play. Yeah, sure. Until you hear something that makes you wanna run out and own it. Every band I hear with killer classic Marshalls etc make me realize how great and IRREPLACEABLE that sound is. Add Orange to that list for me.

I have limited experience with the AD140, but I never got to turn it up. The AD30 is incredible.

Everyone in here has the "I got a compliment on my tone" blah blah. Well, when I walked in today, I actually had to stop to check out the amp I heard. Playing it made me feel I will one day need one for my arsenal. My friend swears its still second to my Shiva, but also admiited it sits right in with "that" type of amp.

Orange really hit their mark with the AD and Rocker series they built. I'm not a big fan of real Marshalls....they're a little too bright for me, and Orange has that almost perfert midrange thing going on with a very rounded top end that avoids sounding too dull.

A Rocker 30 through a V30 loaded 4x12 is sick. I'd love to get my hands on an AD30 as well.

I'd love an Orange. I'd love a Rockerverb 50, but an AD30R would do just as nicely.

How do the Rocker series sound different?

BTW Scream, it's not hard or expensive to make a Marshall darker.

Well....the AD series is basically the next evolution of the Overdrive series. It doesn't have a whole lot of preamp gain on tap, and is designed to give varying colours of thick overdrive. Most Oranges aren't that great for 'clean' cleans. They basically do grit, more grit, and even more grit.

The Rocker is a departure from that mold. It's designed to have a real clean channel and a real distortion channel. The lower wattage ones have alot of overdrive to them, but it's a cleaner overdrive due to a cleaner preamp circuit. The dirt channel on the Rocker 30 runs similar amounts of gain as a JCM800, but it's voiced darker and has a bit less crunch/more chunk to it than a Marshall. The Rockerverbs have an extra gain stage and can hit nu-metal territory if you wanted them to.

I played an orange once and I think I started crying at one point it sounded so nice.

Absolutely excellent amps, the AD line.

My ideal rig is an Orange AD30HTC, a Dr Z Route 66, a pair of Ear Candy Buzzbombs, and an army of pedals.

ya I want a Rockerverb 50 with an orange 2x12 cab more than any other amp at this point...this thread is not helping my gas prob any either

I'm with you Olin, the Orange AD-30R is a great amp! I'd go as far as to say I'd grab one before going with a Marshall.

The amp is a MINI beast, and it would work well with everything I own - Marshall, Bogner, etc etc - you can run STEREO yummmmmmmm
