Pre-Matched Pickup Sets:

Ever wonder why customers don’t buy electric guitar pickups? We did. So we undertook detailed market research to determine the biggest factor as to why customers don’t make the purchase decision. It turns out that our huge array of pickups (108 different series, at last count) was working for us and against us at the same time. The biggest reason for reluctant customers: “too many pickups from which to choose.”

So, to make the choosing easier, we released our most popular pickup models in pre-matched sets. This will take the guesswork out of determining which pickups work well together. The initial release of matched sets includes the following, each targeted to a specific type of customer and their musical taste:

Vintage Blues™
Made up of a pair of calibrated SH-1 ’59 Model pickups for the neck and bridge positions. This set is based on the vintage P.A.F. humbuckers of the late ‘50s and is perfect for blues, jazz, and classic rock.

Hot Rodded Humbucker™
Matches an SH-2n Jazz Model for the neck position with and an SH-4 JB Model for the bridge position. This is Seymour’s favorite humbucker set and is widely used for everything from blues-rock to metal.

Distortion Mayhem™
Includes a duo of SH-6 Duncan Distortion humbuckers for the neck and bridge positions. This is an aggressive youth-oriented set, which was designed for the heaviest punk, metal, and hardcore guitar tones.

California ‘50s™
Matched and calibrated set of SSL-1 Vintage Staggered pickups for Stratocaster® guitars. The pickups are authentic ‘50s reproduction Alnico 5 vintage single coils, and work great for surf, Country, blues and classic rock.

Everything Axe™
Combines an SJBJ-1b JB Jr. for the bridge position with an SDBR-1n Duckbucker and SL59-1n Little ’59 for the middle and neck positions. This is an extremely versatile set that will coax everything from vintage to heavy tones from a Stratocaster. It works with all musical styles, and each of the pickups is hum canceling.

All of the pickups in the matched sets are hand built in our Santa Barbara, California workshop and include all necessary mounting hardware and wiring instructions.

What do you guys think of the choices? I think it's a great concept.

Re: Pre-Matched Duncan Pickup Sets

I think its a cool idea. As a matter of fact, when I first saw this announcement, I almost started a thread asking folks how many of these combos do you have, by virtue of what you've already put together?

For example, I have the "Vintage Blues" set.

So, which do you have? ;)

None! :laugh2: But I still think it's a great idea...

Great concept, especially for those who haven't discovered the wealth of information that perpetuates from this forum...

Oh- and "none".

Does anyone know when these pickup bundles are going to be available?

I think they're available now. I ordered a few sets of the "California 50's"...the three SSL-1's.

that is a really good idea, i used to have a set of 59's in a guitar. otherwise i have antiquity sets in three guitars right now

the only problem is for guys that use the JB/59 combo or the guys like me who prefer the jazz in the neck along with a DD at the bridge.
BUT i still think it is a great idea overall.

Re: Pre-Matched Duncan Pickup Sets

I think it is a great idea. Do you know if they have a discount over the separated price? This things never have... I think it would be great for players and sellers and even for SD since they will be selling two pickups easely...

Re: Pre-Matched Duncan Pickup Sets

the California 50's are a great idea ... calibrated sets have always been available, but other than the set in my '94 G & L Legacy, I haven't heard of anyone here who has a calibrated set that they bought.

i almost bought a set of callibrated strat pickups but i bought the antiquities instead.

i think this idea is only good for people that feel overwhelmed by the amount of choices. it also gives them an idea of what the pickups sound like with the names like california 50's and vintage blues

Re: Pre-Matched Duncan Pickup Sets

they had these up on musicians friend in at least december i think

But we aren't the target audience. We change pups like most people change underwear.

This is to get "noobs" started down the path of tone rightousness. :laugh2:

Yup, those new guys gotta start somewhere, I'm glad this is available to them

Re: Pre-Matched Duncan Pickup Sets

I think its a great idea for the person who is a novice. It might help Duncan sell more pickups to the person who is a novice because it will be less confusing. For me, they dont do anything for me.

Re: Pre-Matched Duncan Pickup Sets

This is a good idea but I'm not sure some of the combo's make sense. I seldom sell a set of "59's" and I doubt I have ever sold a matched set of Distortions. The Jazz & JB make good sense though as do the strats.

I think they will work better for the store front guys as opposed to sellers like Lew and myself who already have a big inventory. To me, it just adds redundant stock, but if it helps the customer it's a good thing.
