Pretend my Guitar is YOUR GUITAR

What would you do? Ladies and Gentlemen... er, gentlemen primarily it would seem, this is my story:

I am primarily an acoustic guitar player, but I have a fantastic electric that I believe I should be utilizing much more. I think some sound tweaking is necessary, and as I'm heading to college next year I'm looking to have gear streamlined for dorm room space. That means only One guitar, so the question at hand is:

What do you put in the bridge position of a 50's reissue strat to make it sound skitty-wicked?

(to focus the answers more concisely, I'd like to say primarily that I'm interested most in a single coil size humbucker, and my main interests for its use would be blues, pop punk, and rock reminiscent of the "classic" era.)

I ask your help, and the fate of this strat may very well rest in your hands. Okay, 1-2-3 GO!

Re: Pretend my Guitar is YOUR GUITAR

For a single size bucker, the Lil 59' My ultimate strat setup for max versitality would be a CC at the bridge, and APS in the middle neck. The CC is perfect in a strat, splits well, and can do anything from sweet clean to mean metal and classic rock/blues.

If it were my axe, I'd buy a new pickguard set up for H/S/S and go CC/APS/APS. Tone heaven.

Seems like it would make sense to stick a '59 in a 50's RI :)

My thoughts exactly MR. Jeff!!! That combo is like straight butter!!!

Re: Pretend my Guitar is YOUR GUITAR

Let's see, if it were my axe... lil' Invader! :laugh2:

Jeff_H's suggestion makes a killer versatile axe :smoker:

A lil' 59 for the bridge for classic rock stuff is yummy, too.

Among the lil' series my fav is the lil' JB (...and the lil' Invader, ahahahaha :laugh2: ) but it wouldn't suit your needs. It's rather a '80s voiced stuff. A magnificent one, anyway :headbang:

Re: Pretend my Guitar is YOUR GUITAR

The Little 59 has more highs than the JB JR. and blends better with the middle pickup...a little more chime. The JB JR. has more mids and more balls and has a thicker, hotter tone for soloing but tends to dominate the middle pickup when combined with it...a little less chime. One of those would be my pick.

Re: Pretend my Guitar is YOUR GUITAR

.............after finishing a set with a wild mind blowing solo, I step up to the edge of the stage and SMASH the guitar into tiny fragments....

Oh, thats not what you meant?

Re: Pretend my Guitar is YOUR GUITAR

I tried the JB jr. and was not impressed, which is funny cuz the full size JB is my favorite duncan pickup! I'd get the Lil '59 as well, they always sounded great to me.

Re: Pretend my Guitar is YOUR GUITAR

In a single coil size pickup the lil59 or even the lilScreaminDemon are very good choices.

My Strat has a JB in the bridge with a series/parallel switch (for the reason Lew described), a Hot stack in the middle and a lil59 in the neck.

I also added a bridge pickup on/off switch, a Shaller Floyd , LSR roller nut and Sperzal locking tuners but what I do to Strats tends to be a little extreme.

Re: Pretend my Guitar is YOUR GUITAR

:wall:

If it was my strat, I'd go with a pair of Vintage Rails neck and middle and a Cool Rail in the bridge.

I like Rails. :headbang:

Re: Pretend my Guitar is YOUR GUITAR

Gents, I like your way of thinking (as well as your various, but for the most part similar life styles, come to think of it.)

I in part myself, had the little 59 in the back of my head, but needed my suspicions confirmed. The lil Screamin' Deamon is also on the list. I really liked the sound clip for that. Meh, I dunno. fortunately, as a recently bought acoustic has temporarily set me back, I have some more time to pontificate the matter.

Any other takers?
