Price of Strtocasters?

Ok, I saw a 1968 Stratocaster for sale for nearly $15k. Whats up with that?
Even in near mint condition, it is still a CBS era instrument, and I thought they were considered not so collectable?
Does this price seem out of line to you all as it does me?

I bet if Hendrix played 78' strat those would go for that much...

prob mostly has to do with things like that....

Jazzmasters, Jaguars and Mustangs went for next to nothing before Sonic Youth, Nirvana and Dinosaur Jr. started to use them...now Indie kids and grungers love those fender oddity and student models...

just like im sure alot of people with 15K to burn and kids out of the house would rather get a 68' strat to play than a pile of reissues...

There was a Strat in the UK circa '59 on e-bay last week with a reserve of £25,000 that's $50K+ US.

It's just the fact that its old......forget this vintage crap. You're paying for the fact that its old. There is nothing extrodanary about a 68 or a 54 or any strat. Everyone always raves about them and I'm sure they sound great but let be honest, theres nothing about those guitars that can't be made now to sound the same. There are great body and neck shops out there aside from the usual ones, there are great pick up makers out there that produce great authentic sounding pups, same for electronics, and as for finish you can still pick up nitro pretty cheap. you can build your own guitar to spec, right down to very detail of a 68 or a 54 or what ever and it will be just as good. But you are paying for the time, the year it was made, for bragging rights, for a piece of history for what ever.

It's crazy.

40-50 years cant be made. Which i think is SUPER important to any instrument. Years of playing an instrument makes a huge difference in my opinion.

on that note i think the money is quite insane tho as well man.

i would never buy one.
