Princeton VS Champ

I wonder has this thread been posted before.
However I will still shoot the question, given a choice to play with both amps and within budget, which is better to "invest" in ? Lets say that the Princeton comes without the reverb. Thanks

To be honest neither. Neither will ever be worth the amount of a Princeton Deluxe, Super, Pro, or Twin Reverb.

The Princetons without Reverb are not very popular due to a lack in punch as well as the lack of reverb.

Don't get me wrong both are good amps but neither is ever going to bring the big money like the Reverb Models.

Tweed or Blackface?

I'm guessing Blackface from your initial post - then I'd have to say "Princeton". I don't know squat about collecting, but the tremelo, higher output, and especially the 10" speaker, just make more sense to me than the single-ended Blackface Champ with an 8" speaker.

For Tweed, I still say "Princeton" due to the tone control and higher gain on the first preamp stage, but Tweed Champs claim a damn good heritage.

Re: Princeton VS Champ

If your talking Blackface, go for a Princeton Reverb. Those are nice amps and priced reasonably right now. However, they are starting to go up. The Princeton without reverb isn't that sought after as it has little to no breakup.

If your speaking of Tweed, either one will increase in value.
However the Princeton is a little more useable. I myself own a
'59 Tweed Champ and a '66 BF Champ. I'm on the look out for a BF Princeton Reverb.

But all of these amps are slowly going up in price. A Tweed Champ so clean you could eat off of it went for over $3000 last month on eBay.
