Looking for Real Life
ok, this is a project I've had in mind for a long time, and now that i'm getting comission checks from work, well, i may or may not put them towards this, but leaning towards yes. I was gonna do a rockabilly amp but since i got the gretsch i'm pretty set on rockabilly tone with the current rig
anyhoo, here's what i wanna do
ab165 bassman as the platform, but
i wanna run EL34's
add in a mid knob
presence knob
knob that controlls the ammount of negative feedback, when wide open i want it to be JUST before the oscillations & all that nastyness kick in, all the way down would be stock
seperate preamp that's a marshall JMP clone, but make the whole thing 4 input style like a '59 bassman
master volume for each preamp
now here's the kicker - the ab165 gets compressed at higher volumes, i wanna get rid of that. Also, the more negative feedback you let through, the more compression you get. So, i wanna add in a compression knob to compensate for that.
As far as range for that knob, well, at low volumes with it all the way down & the negative feedback knob all the way down, saggy as hell. Almost unusable. But when the amp is cranked with the negative feedback knob all the way down, slightly more compressed than a normal cranked ab165 is
wow that was long. Anyhoo, those of you who can help - offer any insight that you can. Tell me what is/isn't possible, suggest values, ways of doing things, anything you can think of
thanks
