Problem with B string

My B string doesn't ring out like the other strings when picked open. It also sounds kind of flat and has a sitar effect when fretting down the neck. What would cause this? Nut maybe bridge?

Thanks

Re: Problem with B string

try replacing that one string...if that dosnt work, check the bridge, since it's doing it all down the neck. See if it's too low, or is out of place.

Re: Problem with B string

like beandip said. but look down the neck and see what the string level is. if it seems flat like its almost fretting out it will look lower than the rest of them.

try this. B string - pick it and hit each fret from first to last and see if it is fretting out on any of them. you may have a high fret. or just adjust the srting level on this string or if you have a hardtail then increase the saddle level in small incroments until the buzz / flat tone is gone. if it is just a high fret then you may need to send that in. i wouldnt try to file a fret by myself if that is the case.

i wouldnt think it would be the nut.

look at the bridge and see if its seated properly maybe a small bur has formed or even a groove in this position.

Also i would be hard pressed to think it is the neck as no other strings are doing this

best of luck and i hope i helped a bit

Re: Problem with B string

Sounds like a bridge saddle that's got the dropoff point worn. The way to cure a dead sounding or sitar-ish string is to take fine grain black sandpaper, crease it in half, then use it as a file for either the nut, saddle, or both.

Take the bent in half sandpaper, and run it through the saddle slot, gently deepening the slot on the butt end of the guitar. This will create a clean edge (facing the pickups). I just cut saddle slots on a new Tonepros bridge yesterday, and thought that the 2 high strings didn't ring right. I simply did the sanpaper trick in the slots, and voila....perfect.

Pluck the string,(with the guitar on it's side),and let the string vibrate.
If it goes in an oval rather than side to side then it's false and needs to be replaced,(like Beandip said).
Measure the botteom of the string to the top of the first fret,If it's less than 3/32" it'll need to be raised up.If it's a bone nut you can put in a little Baking Soda and a drop of superglue. This will 'rebuild'the bone.A new nut is best, but this will work as well.
If it's a plastic nut then this could be a good excuse to put a bone,Graphtech or Tusq nut in there.

That did the trick  Thanks
