I have a Duncan 84-40 (2x10) model that I have owned since the 90s. My bother has been using it for several years. I recently got it back from him. He said it had sounded horrible for a while so he hadnt been using it. so i re-tubed it with brand new JJ low power EL84s and JJ ECC83-S 12AX7s. It works now but something is still wrong. The high gain channel sounds great, no problems that I can detect at all. The clean channel is doing this thing where if I play gently it sounds fine. But if I get on it, it seems like I am overloading something. The note starts quiet and sounds like it clipping and then gets loud where it should be. Ive tried it with several guitars with single coil and hubmucker pickups with the same result, so its not a guitar problem.
Does anybody know what might be causing this? I find it interesting that its only in one channel. :33:
Thanks in advance.
