This sounds unbelievable.
I have used the 2i4 interface for a couple of years and am relatively satisfied with it. However, I just noticed something that is either very new or that I never noticed before.
The line/mic combo inputs have almost no grip on a regular 1/4" TS Mono Guitar Plug.
Normally, I am recording either vocals or a mic'd amp so my inputs are predominantly XLR.
However, when I record acoustic/electric guitar I usually run the guitar straight into one channel and mic the guitar into the other channel ... so I have used the 1/4" TS function of the combo jacks (successfully) in the past.
Also, and this is how I noticed the problem last night, when I am sitting at my desk trying to learn a song off YouTube or whatever I plug my guitar straight into the interface.
Right now I can barely make a connection between the guitar cord male and either input jack on the Scarlett. Both are very loose. I have tried several different cables/TS males because I know even slight differences in the diameter can make a difference, but none fit snugly or had any sort of snap action.
The strange part is that this would be understandable if I plugged and unplugged the jacks a thousand time and cycled through their expected life, but that's not the case. I seldom use them, and a year or two ago they were fine and now they are not.
How is this possible? Has anyone else experienced this? I understand that the combo jack is actually XLR plus TRS, but again, they used to work fine with regular guitar cables and now they don't.
Any ideas/input?
This really burns me up. I have a Peterson tuner I've retired because of it's BS no-grip proprietary inputs.
The Focustrite specifications include this feature statement for the Scarlett 2i4:
"2 line/mic/instrument combination inputs - high quality XLR/ ¼ “ TRS Jack Combo"
