Problem with my Quarter Pounder's plastic cover...

I just ordered new pups, pots, straplocks, etc. from Black Rose Customs. First off, I want to thank John for such awesome service and prices. I ordered the stuff Saturday (which means it wouldn't go through til Monday) and got home to find the stuff waiting on me already. I wasn't expecting it til at least tomorrow. Awesome service, highly reccomended. Anywho...

I can't get the pup to "snap" into the cover and stay there. It will stay there for a minute, but as soon as I start screwing it down, the pickup comes out the bottom. How can I stop that? Can I put a small piece of solder on the edge of it or will that screw up the pickup/melt the cover?? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Problem with my Quarter Pounder's plastic cover...

If you install the pup in the pickguard, the spring between the pup and the pickguard should push the cover into place, and the pickup should be kept from falling out by the mounting screw. If there is not enough pressure, maybe surgical tubing could be used.

Re: Problem with my Quarter Pounder's plastic cover...

The pup installs directly into the wood, so I can't do that. I have surgical tubing to put between the cover and the wood, but that seems to be doing the opposite of what I need it to be doing. The old pup had a piece of foam on the back of it to keep it from just dropping down to the wood. Could I maybe just rig some foam on the back with some duct tape without any adverse effects?

Oh by the way, I suppose I should mention this is for a P-Bass. haha. That's why you thought it installed into the pickguard. Oops. :)

Well I don't know, maybe you could tape the pickup onto the cover where it would not show from above?

Or to make it permanent . . . Superglue it on!

Thanks for the suggestions. I finally thought up a way to do it by cutting one of the pieces of foam from the box it came in into two then taking the two pieces and putting them under each one of the halves of the pup. Thanks again for the suggestions. :D
