problem with pickup/guitar electronics

so i'm trying to install new pickup into my 2000 LP standard. the neck is stock and i'm only replacing the bridge.

every single time I solder in a new pickup into this guitar, the middle pickup selector switch sounds like thin crap...it doesn't even blend the two together properly at all...I've been soldering and resoldering and cannot figure out what is going on....could it be the volume pot? or....I dont freakin know anymore...i'm so frustrated...any suggestions??

You need to have an experienced person show you what to do; it's easy but always seems confusing the first couple times. Why not ask the forum members & see who lives close to you.

well, i'm soldering in where the wires are suppose to go and all....do you think i burned the pot or wire?....i've tried two different pickups, both with the same result...middle switch sounds like the bridge PU only much thinner...

Re: problem with pickup/guitar electronics

you might have wired the bridge bucker out of phase with the neck bucker.

If you are installing a Seymour Duncan HB, the instructions will illustrate the black wire as "hot/output" and the green as "ground". Reverse these two conductors. Green becomes output, black becomes ground and the both PUs on selection will be electrically in phase.

How the two humbuckers balance together depends upon their relative output levels and individual tonal characteristics.

how did I wire them out of phase? i'm confused on how that works and how you wire something in phase and out of phase...does it have to do which color wires you solder to what??

Re: problem with pickup/guitar electronics

maybe a visual aid
some manufacturers start theirs on the south coil
some with the north coil
fender being a south start company

in order to correctly phase with a fender pickup
the SD must start with the green and end with the black
instead of the normal way round
