Problems with installing a p-90 in the neck position of a fender?

I remember reading a thread a while ago that said the reason that not too many fenders have p90s is that its a pain in the ass to put in?

In my case I'm considering buying a tele and routing the neck slot long enough for a p-90 and wide enough for a humbucker. That way I can buy a few different pick guard shapes and demo a p90, strat single, great sounding pickup out of a piece of crap sekova japanese guitar etc.

But back to my question couldn't you simply take the two screws that are aligned with the pole pieces on the p90 and screw them to the bottom of the routing and put a spring on each screw? Sounds simple enough to me, am I missing something? Thanks

The "direct-mount adjustable" method usually invovles a threaded insert put into the wood, the P-90 is then mounted using machine screws. It's not that it is impossible, just more work than most people want to put into it. Your method may work if- 1. you can find a wood screw that has threds that match the machine screws, 2. this wood screw is long enough to go into the wood a sufficient depth. My concern would be the stability of the pick up. I'm not sure wood screws would hold tight enough to be adjustable as well. You may want to look into the insert menthod. I think it would be more stable. They would mount flush, so it wouldn't affect a humbucker swap.

Bbuy a tele and routing the neck slot long enough for a p-90 and wide enough for a humbucker.

Gibson make a P-94 pup that works in the humbucking cutout and is a P-90 style pup.

Not really, it´s becaue the P-90 is a gibson pickup... How many Les pauls do see with a "3-tite" setup or HSS like a (super) strat?

nope, got more opr less everything but the inserts BB mebtioned.... but I prefer to use foam rubber, keeps the pickup from rocking in the rout
