Problems with vol control

Hi,

I have a 335 Washburn copy with a SD antiquities in neck, gibson pro paf in bridge. 500K pots for vol (2). The controls don't seem to have much control over the volume. Between 10 and 0 there isn't much decrease in sound. You can't really control your amp vol using the guitar vol compared to my strat, which has a lot of control.

Do I need to change pot values? The neck is also somewhat dull (lacking treble) when not on 10. I have installed a treble bypass on the vol pot. That helped some but not a lot. Is this just the nature of the antiquities pu?

Thanks,
Rut

Re: Problems with vol control

I've had this problem in the past with some factory wiring when the pickup's hots are connected to the wiper/center lug of the POT vs connected to the outer lug of the pot. Take a close look and see if the actual positive lead from the pickup is going to the center lug of the pot, or the outer lug of the pot. If it's going to the center, that might be contributing to your problem.

Could also be cheap pots, etc, but I'd check that wiring first. Seem like some manufacturers may do this on purpose so that if your switch is in the center position, you can turn one volume down and the other up and still have output. I personally don't like what it does to the controls. When I rewire them just like in Seymour's wiring digram, they work in a much more linear fashion, and the treble bleed works better too.

Hope this helps.
