Proper Pedal Order - Please HELP!

Question - need to know the best order to place my effects from Guitar to Amp for my pedal board. Lookin' for best suggestions for "tone".

Here's the stuff.......

Guitars:
1977 Gibson SG, Gibson Black Beauty, Gibson ES-335

Amp:
1976 Fender Quad Reverb
(New JJ Tesla power tubes, NOS Mullard preamp tubes)

Pedals/Effects:
Metal Monster - by Guyatone
Boss Metal Zone - with Keeley Mod
Boss GT-6
Cry Baby Q535 - Dunlop
RC20XL - Loop Station - Boss
Guitar Exciter Pedal - by Aphex - model 1403
Twin Tube Classic SFX-03 - by Seymour Duncan

I really appreciate the input

Re: Proper Pedal Order - Please HELP!

Do you intend to keep the Metal Monster, Boss Metal Zone, Exciter Pedal, and Twin Tube all in the same chain? Would you be willing to use only 1 and swap out when necessary?

Re: Proper Pedal Order - Please HELP!

I really like the ability to change my sound on the fly...all of the above effects offer a true bypass mode. So no real issue leaving all in the effects chain that I see....unless I'm missing something. I never run two of the distortions at the same time. The exciter simply saturates the tone giving the individual distortion that is on at the time that "lush" overdrive sound. Sometimes I use it - but most of the time it's in by-pass.

I just need a little advise on what should come first...the distortion or the clean boost (exciter). Really need some professional guidance on what in the world I should run first - from guitar all the way to the amp. WAY too many random configurations....to just be guessing.

Thanks

Re: Proper Pedal Order - Please HELP!

as it usually is, tone is verrry subjective. just try hooking all your pedals in a chain you think will work and sound good(that's what i did;)). personally, i'd try putting the wah at the end(last pedal in the chain before your guitar) then distortions, then modulation, then the loop station right before the amp. if your not going to be running the distortions at the same time, it doesn't really matter what order they will be in as long as they're in the same section of the chain.

Re: Proper Pedal Order - Please HELP!

Here is my suggestion:

Distortions (up front - whatever order floats your boat). The "one at a time" makes life simple:
Twin Tube Classic SFX-03 - by Seymour Duncan
Boss Metal Zone - with Keeley Mod
Metal Monster - by Guyatone

Boss GT-6 - I don't know a ton about this, but I'm guessing it has a loop that you can add your fave pedals to if you want at whtever point. So next I go GT6

Cry Baby Q535 - Dunlop, I put this in that GT loop so I can add it after whatever distortion I use. If there is no loop I put after the distortion stomps. But some people dig wah before fuzz. That is really subjective. Wah first is a distinct alternative.

Guitar Exciter Pedal - by Aphex - model 1403, To tone shift the whole signal to sweetness. I'd rather put this in an fx loop on the amp. I'm guessing you don't have that.

RC20XL - Loop Station - Boss, last to get the total sound in the loopage!

I say experiment though. That GT6 may have some happening connection/patch options. The wah/fuzz thing needs some trial and error. You may even like it in front of one box, but behind another.

Boss GT-6
Cry Baby Q535 - Dunlop
RC20XL - Loop Station - Boss

Thanks Aceman and Super Rad Ska. I'll give it a try this afternoon and report back on the results. I hope to make the neighbors mad!

WOW

My ears are still ringing. Waiting for the police to show!
Really sounds great.
Only thing I'll have to play around with now is the wah.
It has an adjustable boost switch that I'll either need to turn way down - or off.

The Fendar Quad Reverb I have has a great tone...adding the overdrive options really pushes this 100 watt all tube amp over the top.

Again - thanks for the advice on pedal placement.

Re: Proper Pedal Order - Please HELP!

I've always thought the Wah sounds best in front of everything. Try that first in your chain.

Here's the final set-up. LOVE the sound.

Thanks all for the advice.....
