PRS Bernie Marsden/Gibson Les Paul.

Quite a few folks on various forums are saying that their PRS Bernie outperforms their LP Standards/R8's etc. What do you make of this ? Do you believe that the Bernies could be as good, if not better than, an LP costing 5 or 6 times the price ?

Re: PRS Bernie Marsden/Gibson Les Paul.

l have a usa 245 and 2 gibsons l play daily. I have also had custom shop gibsons owned a usa 250 and played several se 245/sc250s

Based on my experience, id say the se owners are engaging in some wisful thinking comparing to an r8 or prs 245/58. The SEs are built exceptionally well in their price range but dont use the same woods, or quality of hardware.

Re: PRS Bernie Marsden/Gibson Les Paul.

Jeff, I can see wishful thinking coming into it if someone owned only an SE and could not afford a Gibbo but not if they own both. I recently came into a bit of cash and got myself a Bernie as a beater but it's way too good for that particularly since I've put Bare Knuckles in it. I can still afford to buy an LP but wonder if it's really worth all that extra cash when a number of LP owners are saying that they prefer the Bernie.

Re: PRS Bernie Marsden/Gibson Les Paul.

I've played an R9 which was incredible. However, every Korean PRS SE I played felt much better to me than any other US made Les Paul I've tried - with the list including mainly Studios and Standards.

I prefer the way the average Gibson Les Paul looks, and I can't bring myself to except the idea the 'veneer top' PRS uses on its SE models (call me prejudice, okay?) - but in terms of feel... the PRS SEs are exceptionally and consistently incredible.

Re: PRS Bernie Marsden/Gibson Les Paul.

For my part, I have never played any SE that I would take over a R8 or a PRS core/ps model. Not even close. Not even factoring $ into it. Just guitar vs. guitar.

That said, there are many SE guitars that are better built than many Gibson USA production guitars! Sometimes way better!
