PRS Custom 24 P24 High Voltage Upgrade

I just ordered custom shop High Voltage pickups for my PRS Custom 24, actually P24. It has the 5 way blade switch which I like but was considering a 3 way to keep it simple. I have a strat for the single coil sound (SD Classic Stack) and a LP with coil split / phase switch (Custom Shop SH-18's). So I am a fan...

Anyone else upgrade their PRS pickups with the 5 way blade? Switch to 3 way?

Also curious, while I am in there if anyone has upgraded pots and caps or electronics in anyway.

BTW - these guitars are awesome. I like the pickups but don't love them and I know I will love the High Voltage upgrade, plus I always change pickups to SD.

Re: PRS Custom 24 P24 High Voltage Upgrade

No need to "upgrade" the electronics in a PRS! They're EXTREMELY high quality and durable, IMO you can only do equal or worse from there. You probably want to contact PRS and just have them send you their 3-way switch to keep everything consistent, the fear is that PRS uses so much proprietary stuff that you might run into problems with 3rd party parts. Not sure if you ever plan on selling it but using a non-PRS part in there could potentially affect the resale value too.

Pickups are a different story though, I've tried a few Custom 24s and thought the pickups were great but I'd rather have Duncans too xD You might wanna keep those pickups in case you wanna pop them back in if you wanna sell the guitar?

PRS guitars are crazy expensive and perhaps a bit overpriced, but at least they do put high quality expensive components in there so you don't feel so gypped.

I have a Paul's Guitar and I'd never swap anything in there. Well, to be fair, the pickups can't even be changed because the 408 pickups are proprietary so you can't fit any other pickup in that routing. But I LOVE the 408s, so no issue there. The special wrap bridge is a total beast and it's the best fixed bridge I've ever laid my dirty hands on. The pots and switches feel great so I'm keeping them for sure too.

Thanks! This is a keeper for sure. I love the look, neck, tones and the pickups aren't bad at all. The High Voltage has a little more output than the 85/15 (measured last night). I am interested in hearing them. I will keep the 85/15 just in case but if I love the HV's I will sell the 85/15 to help offset the price of the SD's.

I've swapped pups in my CU24 but won't touch the electronics. Pots, 5 way, hardware, trem, everything is top notch with PRS.
