PRS Mira X pickups?

OaklandA

Hello...have lurked this forum for years and finally signed on. Have learned a lot from this place.

Anyway, I have a Mira X, which i love but am trying to figure out just what PRS is using for pickups in these.

They are open humbuckers that are loud, punchy and crunchy. Cleans are nice but bright. I'm thinking they might be ceramic, but the guitar has a vintage vibe so I would've thought they'd use alnico's.

Anyone know?

Bumping this unanswered post to see if anyone knows anything about these pickups

Re: PRS Mira X pickups?

All I know is that they're distinctly for the Mira X.

How do yoiu like your Mira? I am definitely interested in one with the birds...

In-house pickups. No stats published (as usual).

On their more "modern" pickup designs, PRS is in the habit of having an Alnico magnet in the bass/neck PU and a Ceramic in the treble/bridge PU.

P90s are bought in from SD.

I have the Mira X which is a bit different than the standard Mira....bit shorter scale at 24.5", lighter weight, flatter top, and the pickups that i'm asking about. I love this guitar. The neck reminds me of the neck on an old SG style Les Paul ('62) I had years ago.

Still curious about the pickups. I'm happy with them so far but may want something different down the road. Then again maybe not. I would like to know what they are spec-wise. They use the Mira X pickups in the Starla X model too I believe.

This could give a clue. On the PRS SC range, the 250 models get modern-voiced HBs whilst the 245 models get vintage voiced ones. Time to get out the multimeter.

Re: PRS Mira X pickups?

The Mira pickups are uncovered SC245 pickups, which PRS states are Alnico based, 8.4k neck, 9.6k bridge.

I don't know how or if the Mira X pickups differ from the Mira pickups

I'm assuming they're different since PRS makes the distinction on the specs page on the website. Also the Starla X is shown to be fitted with "Mira X" pickups as well so once again they are making a distinction.

I'm liking them more and more whatever they are. Very crisp but not thin at all.

There's some vids on YouTube of the Mira X that might help....I can link if need be.

Re: PRS Mira X pickups?

I just bought a Mira X from another forum.
FedEx is delivering it tomorrow.
Can't wait.

I HAVE a 2010 25th annaversary MIRA w/SOAPBARS w/birds,redish-burgandy w/a white prs case for sale if your interested, (sorry for hijacking this thread)

Re: PRS Mira X pickups?

I **think** they are same as Mira pups
which are SC245s with no covers and tapped.
Although on Mira X - I do not believe you have a switch, so you may see an extra wire taped up or something.
I have Mira pups sitting in a box, if you want me to ohm them out.
I have Alnico Pro IIs in my Mira.

Actually the Starla X has the same scale length! GREAT guitars!!!!!!

Re: PRS Mira X pickups?

I have since read in an article that Paul Reed Smith has said that the Mira X pickups are slightly higher output SC 245's, and obviously open coil. I can't remember if it was from that source or another that I heard that the magnets were different as well.

Now that I've had this guitar a while now I've gotten pretty used to them. Though at times I consider putting Phat Cats in it with magnet upgrades.

But for now I'm ok with the bright, crunchy Mira X's. They have a pretty saucy sound to them.
