So, I bought a PRS S2 24 this year with my tax refund. Beautiful guitar, amazing feel, but I hated the pickups even at the store I wasn't so I bought it with the intention of swapping them out. Fast forward a month, after watching and reading a zillion reviews, I decided to go with the P-Rails. The stock pickups were too muddy to me and way to warm for the mahogany body IMO.
Heres my take on the P-Rails since I've seen a lot of positive and negative reviews on them. They are not bad pickups by any means, but they left me feeling like something was missing. With all of the tonal options I had with the triple shot, they just lacked that...something. The P90 sound, by far my favorite of the mix.
Today I just got my guitar back from the shop after having a Pearly Gates set installed and custom wiring. I had each coil tapped individually and a push pull added to the volume and tone. So far, I've seriously loved every configuration that I've played it in. The Pearly Gates definitely balance out the mahogany and make for a really good tone. The also push my little amp right where I like it, and I have to say I'm pretty stoked. Tapping the coils on these pickups have also had a lot of back and forth reviews, but personally I like having them tapped. Its also fun to switch one to tapped and keep one series for some unique sounding tones.
Anyway, sorry for the long read! Just thought I'd share. Thanks for reading
