Re: Prs SE 245
I was all set to order a Marsden a few months back. I finally found a 245Se to play and the build quality was good, typical PRS SE.
I was not impressed with the "wide fat" neck, which was not nearly as big as the WF on the USA models I owned and was smaller than on a Ibby AS73 hollowbody I also played that day. I also am not a fan of the short narrow frets they use on the SEs. Finally this one was a tone turd. Dead and tinny, no pickups would have helped that thing to anywhere above the "mediocre" level tonally. Looking at the wood grain it was clearly obvious they are not using any kind of actual mahogany species like the USA models do - its that asian faux mahogany. That goes with the territory and the price and that is cool, but the neck & frets were the deal breaker for me.
EDIT- to answer your question, the maple cap is not full thickness- its the same width in the middle as it is for the natural binding.
Good value for many, but I would be hesitant to order one sight unseen- There are very few brand guitars I actually would not hesitate to order sight unseen, but definitely any MIC/MIK instrument needs to pass the in-hand boobie test, AFAIC.
