PRS SE ONE on Craigslist

Re: PRS SE ONE on Craigslist

That's a really good price, but not unbelievable. The SE models are Korean, and that guitar was probably around $500 new.

Re: PRS SE ONE on Craigslist

Well, the guy selling it seems to have crammed a 2nd P-90 into it, basically so close to the original one that they're touching.

That is weird. I don't get why that would be a good idea.

I think you can find one for that price that hasn't had major surgery. Keep looking.

Re: PRS SE ONE on Craigslist

Why bother putting in another pickup RIGHT BESIDE the other one? That makes very little sense... I guess that's why it says "customized".

Seems to me he wanted to avoid cutting into the pickguard, which is especially strange given his willingness to drill out the body.

Generally "customized" without further explanation is ad-speak for "messed up beyond the ability for an appealing description."

Re: PRS SE ONE on Craigslist

There is something weird going on with the wrapover bridge. The pics illustrate black stud post screws where they should be shiny chrome.

The pickup cavity was probably simply extended to accept the second P90. The only reason that springs to mind is an attempt to achieve noise-cancellation.

The second pot hole in the pickguard implies an extended control cavity beneath.

Gibson Junior fans will know that one P90, one volume pot and one tone pot is enough.

Re: PRS SE ONE on Craigslist

That's exactly the style I wanted, was the LPJ style. He definitely ruined the guitar for me at least. Oh well, the search continues.

Re: PRS SE ONE on Craigslist

Alternative 1 - Haggle for a monster discount. Install one US-made P90, vol and tone controls. Disguise the extra cavity.

Alternative 2 - Buy a different example and devise a way to add a second pot without drastically altering the appearance of the guitar.

Alternative 3 - Buy a singlecut PRS SE Soapbar, only use the bridge/Treble position pickup.

EDIT - I own examples of both designs. I prefer the SE Soapbar because the neck is chunkier. So is the tone.

Re: PRS SE ONE on Craigslist

Unmolested ones go for less than $300 pretty often.

The control cavity beneath the guard is rectangular. It's tight, but I've seen several examples where a separate tone control was added. No routing.

In theory, the Soapbar and One necks should be the same, but in reality there is some variation. I just sold my SE Soapbar II, which was about 1/16" wider than spec and definitely felt huge. My SE One neck feels really close to the USA wide/fat.

The SE One scratches my LP Jr itch. I love everything about it.
