PRS SE Soapbar II

I've asked this on other forums, but no-one can give me a straight answer. How good are the stock p90s in the PRS SE Soapbar II (double cut)? As this is the guitar I'll be playing for the next 5 years (which is becoming the start of my band's career), I want to really pimp this axe with the SP90-3 in the bridge and the Antiquity p90 in the neck. However, is it worth the trouble or should I stick to stock?

Well they're good enough to not want to be replaced.

I personally did'nt care for the stock pickups in my SE but that's just my opinion. I found the neck pickup to be too droney and the bridge pickup to be lacking guts. I replaced mine with Lollars and could'nt be happier. The SE's stock pickups and the Lollars are the only P90 pickups I know so I can't compare them with other brands.

I don't know if the pickups in the SE are the same as those on the McCartey soapbar, but if they are they should do fine. As for how good they are, just use your ears. If they sound good to you, then they're fine. It all depends on what tone your looking for, now what may technically be better or more popular.

Mine meter out at 9.1Kand 9.27K.
Neck pickup is too boomy and you can't lower it enough to compensate.
Bridge is ok(kinda tame) but I have a SP90-3 I'll be installing to give it some nads.

I just need to get a SP90-1 or Antiquity for the neck and I'll be stylin'.

Great guitar for the money.

I didn't care too much for the stock pickups, the neck was too boomy and the bridge too thin. Many people like them, I didn't. The gutiar itself is a killer piece and well worth the money. I added EMG's to mine and its great.

Yep, I've got the white model also. Just change the stock pickups to a set of your liking and it's a killer guitar for the money. Hey Carrot, just out of curiosity what model of EMG's are you using and could you tell me a bit about them? Thanks.

Currently they are EMG P85's, which are just regular 85's in a P90 sized housing. I like the bridge a lot, the 85 is my favorite EMG bridge pickup, but I don't care for it in the neck as it's too hot and bassy. However, I am waiting for the EMG custom shop to finish building me a Lukather sig SLV single coil into a P90 housing for use in the neck, I can't wait for that. It was supposed to be done already, but they are taking their time.

I personally dont think it is worth the trouble. Shortly after I got mine, I ordered 2 Duncan Vintage P-90's (SP90-1's) and installed them. I was thinking "if these stockers sound this good, the Duncans will be awsome"! Well, the Duncans only stayed in for about a day before the stock pickups went back in. I quickly made use of Duncans exchange policy!!!! Not that the Duncans were bad, the PRS's were that good!

My stock PRS P-90's are in there for GOOD!!!!

That's a pretty fair assessment, but I agree with Tatoocarrot that I'd like a slightly meatier bridge and slighlty thinner neck pickup.
