PRS Stoptail Jazz gauge compatibility?

Guys,

So delighted am I with me Soapbar II that I'm thinking about getting another SE - maybe the singlecut, and sticking a set of Jazz gauge strings on it, comme ca:

Question is, will that stoptail - which "compensates for modern string gauges", send the intonation to ratsh!t with such strings as these?

Also, I'm thinking of putting standard gauge 11s on the Soapbar - does anyone foresee any problems with the stoptail or neck relief?

Failing that, I might get one of these, in order to shred:

Re: PRS Stoptail Jazz gauge compatibility?

A wound G string will usually cause intonation issues on PRS stopbars, if all the others intonate it will generally be flat. That´s part of the reason I sold my McCarty...

Damn, I thought as much. Should be OK with standard 11s (ie 11 - 49) with a plain G string though?

I have one of those and it's strung with .012-.050 with a .019 G string...intonates fine, but the stock POS soft plastic nut is cut for .009. I just made a new nut for it and chucked the old one...

is the aftermarket adjustable stop tail bridge compatible with that guitar? maybe an upgrade can solve your problem
good luck

With a plain G it should intonate fine.... but not with a wound one is the point... and if the set pictured is the actual one he plans on using, it´s an issue, beacuse that set has a wound G (which I personally prefer), and they generlly intonate "longer" ;)

Think I'll give standard 11s a try and hope it doesn't bend the neck...!

Any commercially available string guage should not damage the neck on a professional instrument. If 13s warp or snap the neck, the neck was a POS to begin with ;)

Re: PRS Stoptail Jazz gauge compatibility?

I should clarify, sorry...I'm using a plain .019, not wound. BTW---the old-style Gibson stop tailpiece with the intonation ridges fits these things if you wanted to use a wound G.

Think I'll try a set of these then:

Tens went on no probs, and the neck relief does not appear to have altered at all moving up from 9s, although I'll be surprised if the truss rod won't need a tweak with 11s. Using the tension figures on on D'Addario's website, there's an extra 15 kg moving from regular 9s to 11s (38.65 kg 9s to 53.79 kg 11s).
