PRS Tremonti SE

Looking to replace the stockers on my PRS Tremonti SE. I was thinking of a set of Duncan 59. I do have a Dimarzio PAF PRO laying around. Wasn't sure how that would sound. Play mostly classic rock, Gilmour etc.... Any suggestions would be great.

Re: PRS Tremonti SE

Pearly Gates set, but I would go with a mixed, not matched set of the two sets mentioned above.

maybe '59 bridge and pearly gates neck, or pearly gates bridge and '59 neck.

Re: PRS Tremonti SE

I went with the 59 set in my epiphone and am very happy.

I also put 250K's for the 2 bridge pickup controls, an a8 mag in the bridge and an a2 in the neck. I may or may not switch back to a5 in the neck, not sure how I feel with the mushier bass when played with a more gain. It sounds around 90% how I think a good, basic LP should sound. If epiphone were my company I'd be putting 59's stock in all LP stds/plus tops.

I've never played a pearly gates but they come well recommended.

Re: PRS Tremonti SE

'59s, possibly with C5 bridge. JB/Jazz works very well. I'm going to try a C4 once the magnet gets here; I've got high hopes for it. I had a CC and a Phat Cat in my Santana SE for a while, but A2 in any PRS SE tends towards overkill on the mids.

Re: PRS Tremonti SE

Quick followup (not that anybody is following this thread) -- just made the C5 a C4, and holy poo, it sounds amazing! The excessive treble and thinness of a C5 are tempered; much warmer without going into CC territory. Great balance. Too soon to fully judge, and I'm worried about the stiffness and sub-optimal harmonics that A4 is sometimes said to have, but I think I may have a winner.
