PRS Tremonti Treble pickup?

Another one I'm interested in.

I think Tremonti used the 500T before he went to PRS? I think I remember reading the Tremonti Treble is based on the 500T. It would seem like it is. It's 15K and has triple ceramic magnets. OK!

But what did they tweak? I'm a huge fan of the 500T, and I don't like Tremonti, but his gear is pretty heavy-sounding regardless of what he plays. I wonder if the Tremonti Treble is worth giving a try if I like the 500T. I like the rawness and agression of the 500T. It's very rough-around-the-edges, and I love that. Gives it a lot of grind and dirtiness. Does the Tremonti Treble keep those characteristics?

Opinions? Experiences? It's somewhat of a pricey pickup to just take a gamble.

Thanks!

ive only played it in his signature prs, and it sounded good. prs likes to keep things pretty close to the vest with what they offer, but some of their pups sound good. is the tremonti that much different than the 500t, dunno. they sound pretty similar to me

I'd say pretty close, the Tremonti might have a little less of the rawness of the 500t, seems like the mids were more flat, treble is chopped a bit, I've had 5 Tremontis over the years but it's been a while, and mine all had the original pre-squabbin pups. I figured they were the same but listening to the HFS in original and square bobbin forms they are definitely different. I probably always preferred the HFS to the Tremonti because it has more mids. If you are looking to pick up a Tremonti know that the older "250 Treble" is the same pickup. The neck pups however were different.

Thanks for the replies.

I kinda want to try it, but it's spendy. I really don't want another polished-sounding pickup, though. I have the Nazgul for that, and even if I love it, I do find it's a bit too clean and surgical at times.

I kinda like the more over-the-top vibe of the 500T or the Duncan Distortion for my next project.

The Tremonti Treble is basically a 500T wound on PRS' own bobbins with their magnets and pole pieces. The end result is ~95% the same tonally, but the Tremonti is a tad more "polished" as you put it. Personally, I'd take the Tremonti over the 500T if I was given a choice, but I'd be happy with either and I suspect you would be, too.
