PRS Wiring Project

Hi everyone... my blue PRS is a wonderful guitar but I'm having some issues with the wiring.. one of the pots is cutting out. It is because the previous owner re-used a set of cheap pots when he installed new pickups. He also installed HSH instead of HH and that could have led to some oddball re-soldering as he figured it out. ANYWAY. I got my hands on a nice JB/Jazz set in mint condition and looking at acquiring a SSL6 (neck) so I'm going to Seymourize the PRS. I have two CTS 500k pots, one with push-pull, and a CRL 5-way.

Plan is to keep the HSH since this guitar has a pickguard and it is already cut for that. My plan is to use a 5-way blade, Vol and Tone with the tone being a push-pull switch. The tought about the wiring is currently as follows:

Push-pull not engaged:
Full bridge humbucker
Inner coil (bridge) + middle single
Middle single
Inner coil (neck) + middle single
Full neck humbucker

But when the push-pull is engaged, it will turn the guitar into 3 single coils:
Bridge Inner coil
Inner (bridge) coil + middle single
Middle single
Inner coil (neck) + middle single
Neck Inner coil

Essentially, the switch will allow for single-coil sound at the #1 and #5 position. That is the plan right now... will be a few days before I can start wiring.

Thoughts?

Sounds like a winner to me.

Only alternative I’d consider would be a 5-way wired up in a traditional PRS style, and bypass the single coil and keep it in for looks only.

or perhaps a 3 way, and use the tone control as a blend pot for the single…
