Hey tried out 2 Paul Reed Smith Combo amps today.
SE 30-5881 power tubes. It has a tight and focused distortion. It has plenty of gain. To get the nice clip you simply need to dial in your guitar pickup tone and tweak the midrange as the tone nobs are very responsive. The harder you push the amp the nicer the break up tone. Its 30 watts so no sweat. It still sounds good at lower volumes but when pushed this amp really shines. It feels solid too and well built. The clean tones are bright. You have to dial in your pickups tone and find the sweet spots. Think bright country tone. If your looking to cut through, this is your amp.

The SE 20 is 6v6 tube amp. Around 20 watts or more so no surprises there. It has a nice rounded clip tone very sweet that when the right amount of gain is added, it sounds really good. Pushed hard it sounds even better and I got a nice Van Halen 2 tone out of the amp. Metal?-meh not really. This is a hard rock and blues amp. The tone with 6v6 tubes is fat. The cleans where chimey and nice. I compared them to a fender SS 22 and this amp got most all the same fender tones. I think a speaker swap would take care of this.

For a hard rock and blues amp the SE 20 combo is a great amp. Its cleans are sweet and its distortion is fat with a wonderful soft defined clip and plenty of gain. It took pedals well. I really liked this amp and its wattage range is perfect for small gigs and practice.

For a little more volume and a more el34 tone but still nice cleans combo amp the SE 30 is a good choice. It can be pushed to sound great.

Guitars used were.......a PRS $3000 dollar duel humbucker guitar and a fender american standard ash strat with fender fat 50s and a humucker bridge.

Good luck
