PU Suggestion for a '76 Yamaha SG500

Hey guys I 've decided to finally take out the stock PU's out of my '76 Yamaha SG 500 and put on some Duncan's. Mahogany body, maple cap and rosewood fretboard I believe. I already put a Jazz (neck) & Distortion (bridge) in my Tokai Love Rock earlier this year, with great results..

I just found a SD SH-2 Jazz PU (neck) locally today and i'm buying it tomorrow. So i'm set with that, but now I need suggestions for the bridge pickup..I've already decided to get something other than a SH-6 Distortion for variety from both guitars..I play metal through my JCM 800 (2210) and old-school '77 punk style/ Raunchy Rock 'n Roll through my '65 Bassman. It'll be mainly used for the non-metal stuff. What do you guys suggest?

I love the Distortion, but if you want something with a little different flavor, go with a Custom.

That's a gorgeous guitar, btw.

Duly noted, thanks for your suggestion..Now, how does the Custom compare to the Distortion?

Re: PU Suggestion for a '76 Yamaha SG500

My vote's on Custom Custom.

I also vote that you post clips of both guitars through both rigs, with the channels from the Bassman jumped into the Marshall...and post pix of the amps stacked up.

Thanks!

Re: PU Suggestion for a '76 Yamaha SG500

well my votes on the custom for a bigger sound than the 59.

Re: PU Suggestion for a '76 Yamaha SG500

Well now, when you guys mention "custom", do you guys mean: Custom 5™ SH-14; Custom Custom™ SH-11 or Duncan Custom™ SH-5??

From the pickup descriptions I read on this site:

"the "Duncan Custom™ SH-5
"P.A.F. on steroids" tone. Used for classic rock, heavy rock, funk, punk, R&B, metal and drop-tunings."

...This one seems to fit what i'm doing, music-wise...If you guys can confirm that this pickup will match well with the Yamaha, then I'll go for that one..

Haha, no way...too much work!

The Custom is the SH-5, when people on the forum reffer to the SH-11, they type "CC", for the SH-14, its "C5".

Re: PU Suggestion for a '76 Yamaha SG500

What is hotter? SH-5 or SH-4 JB?

thnx

I'm not an expert on these, so I can't say which one is "hotter" but I just compared both pickup audio samples and the SH-5 has a thicker, fuller and more low-end to it's sound..At least that's what my ears are telling me from the samples..Hopefully other members with experience on these two PU's will chime in with their experiences and opinions...

Re: PU Suggestion for a '76 Yamaha SG500

Well, I made my desicion today and pulled the trigger on a custom shop "Crazy 8". Don't don't how it'll sound in this guitar, but can't be worse than what's on there now..I should have it in about a week..
