Pup height in FAQ?

I was just reading through the FAQ section and it says when adjusting a pickup height, to start at 3/32 of an inch from the strings. Is it just me, or does that seem REALLY close?

Re: Pup height in FAQ?

I crank my hums up as close to the strings as I can get them.

+1

I crank the bridge hum as far as it can get and then adjust the neck hum to get the balance I want.

This usually isnt good.

most pickups become muddy and you lose natural string vibrations.

dan erlewine (google him ;) )

recommends 3/32 for neck pickups, and 1/16 (which is more or less 4/64) for bridge pickups. (both sides).

its all "taste" really.

but i find that these measurements are good

alot of people complain about their guitars, when they dont even know exactly how pickups work and that they are adjustable.

polepieces are important as well.

Re: Pup height in FAQ?

Obviously, but I like the "feel" of this muddiness. It thickens the sound quite a bit for leads and delivers maximum output. There is a sweet spot for the neck pickup height, a point at which the tone and sustain starts to suffer. Once I find this sport, I back it off a hair and I'm done. Very good setup for extreme high gain shred, so it all depends on playing style and tone you're going for.

Re: Pup height in FAQ?

just play a power chord at the 12 fret and adjust from there, you can tell by listening if its too high or low. seems to work for me.

Re: Pup height in FAQ?

Actually it just IS 4/64. Or 2/32! ;)

they are both 1/16 :P technicaly you shouldnt say 4/64 or 2/32, its 1/16, the imperial system works this way.. divisions always have odd numbers and cant have even numbers otherwise they can be devided.. which is the whole point of the imperial system is to devide to the smallest number
