Pup suggestions for my Knaggs

I really like JB's and they pair up great with my Mezzabarba Trinity amp. I have a Knaggs with a Lollar pup that I initially like but next to the JB they have a bit too much 'sizzle'
What is a good suggestion for my Les Paul type Knaggs -similar to the JB?

How does the Slash compare to the JB?

I play classic rock to classic hard rock and shred.

Thanks!

Re: Pup suggestions for my Knaggs

The Slash pickup has more true mids, less output & more dynamics compared to the JB. To me, the JB would have more upper mids and highs. It sounds like you want to get away from highs, though. The closest in output/feel to the JB but with less sizzle is the Custom Custom.

Re: Pup suggestions for my Knaggs

The Slash actually sounds pretty good!

My Mezzabarba amp has a lot of mids and gain on tap. So??

Funny thing is I normally like the Dimarzio AT-1 pup but it has way too much 'sizzle' with this amp. that sizzle is Gone with the JB which blows me away.

I'm guessing the JB is just plain 'smoother' and more balanced? Can I expect the Slash to be as smooth and balanced (with more mids)?

If you think the JB sounds smooth, the Slash has a whole new level of smoothness. I think the Slash is the one. Keep in mind, the Slash has 2 conductors and long legs, which may or may not be an issue to you

The 2 conductors is fine, what does the 'long legs' mean? It's going into the Knaggs LP type cavity. Thanks!

humbuckers come in long legs (like original humbuckers usually seen on arch-top solidbodies) and short legs (like most modern pickups. The depth of the mounting tab on the Slash is is 1.076" from the top of the bobbin, .0565" deep from the baseplate. Short legged pickups have a depth .837" of from the top of the bobbin, & .280" from the baseplate.
So get out a good ruler and see if your cavity is deep enough.

Actually I would say the Perpetual Burn is much closer to the feel of the JB than the Custom Custom is. Less output and sizzle softer attack more overall clarity and an overall more open tone. Have all 3 pickups in play at this time so---. The Perpet is a more "polite" less rude pickup overall than the JB is but still has that cool singing quality and is a little tighter in the bottom.

Re: Pup suggestions for my Knaggs

@Ascension reading reviews initially it looked promising but my Mezzabarba Trinity is a fairly bright amp and folks are saying it is a 'bright' pup too........hard to know what they are playing thru.
Also I am know trying to fix a new Jackson custom shop that came with a JB that sounds NOTHING like a RR V Jackson with a JB thru the same Trinity amp.
