pups for jackson rhoads

Brown Note

greetings,

I have a alder/maple/ebony jackson that need some new pickups. I want a clear distortion sound with lots of definition. The JB is awesome, but I like to use heavy strings 10-52 or even 11-54 depending on the scale of the guitar and with jb the lower notes start to get a bit overly boomy and indistinguishable. I use standard E tuning.

So what would be like jb but with more articulate lows? Doesn't need to be SD, though I've had lots of good experiences with them.

Re: pups for jackson rhoads

The JB and DD are the same aren't they? I think that the DD just has an over sized ceramic in it. So right away it'll be tighter and have a little more output and balls than the JB and its A5 mag. From what I heard they are very similar pickups cept the mags so either buy a DD or a ceramic magnet for JB and swap out the A5 in it. You should still get the same relative tone but more clarity and a tighter bottom end.

Distortion has 2 additional small magnets in it as far as i know and my DD should in the mail today!

Custom has the best clarity and note seperation when playing chords. Its slightly lower output works well if you are using a high gain amp like a 5150, Krankenstein, ect. It sounds brighter than a JB in my opinion.

Re: pups for jackson rhoads

I hooked up the distortion. Not sure whether it's the thing for this guitar, but it does sound pretty good!

Invader!

I'd say give the distortion a chance. Maybe a month and if you haven't wrecked it to all hell, you can sell it.
