does anyone make a push pull pot that actually fits the control plate on a les paul?

Yes. Scour mail order websites for 500k long shaft push-pull pots.

all mail order websites carry import sized pots. the shaft is the right size but the base has to be modified to sit on the control plate properly, if you know of one that sells them to Gibson spec(not even Gibson does i asked them) i would appreciate it.

that is exactly what i'm not looking for. it's a mini pot which won't just drop in on a les paul control plate

I don't follow... This is a standard 3/8" shaft. Only the potentiometer is small.

When you say "control plate" you mean the PCB one like this one?

Or this one?
