Put a cap the bridge, leave neck+bridge as is

Tor

Riffologist Extraordinaire
I have a Thinline 72 reissue. I'm very happy with the tone in the neck and the neck+bridge positions. Often leaving the tone control untouched (I use it, but only for smaller adjustments). However, I never like the bridge when the tone pot is maxed.

Is it possible to put a cap on it to reduce the treble? I really like the added brilliance introduced by the bridge in the middle position, so that would hopefully stay unaffected..

Yeah, but then the middle position gets affected again.. I guess I could always go for a compromise, but I was just hoping I could alter the frequency spectrum of the bridge only :)

You can wire a capacitor in series with the bridge pickup most definitely.

Don't those reissues have Wide Range humbuckers wired up to 250k pots? I remember swapping out pots to 500k or 1m for clients before, that would definitely help you.

Nice. Is there a standard wiring diagram for that?

Maybe so, if the cap wouldn't help I could always try :)

Re: Put a cap the bridge, leave neck+bridge as is

All you'd have to do is take the hot wire of the bridge pickup and wire a .022 capacitor between the wire and the selector switch and split the hot wire so one free from the cap goes to the prong for the middle position.

I strongly suggest not doing this because it kills your versatility, but it's always reversible.
