I found it to be a rather thin sounding pickup. I like the high strings to have a bit of "muscle" or "push" to them and while playing a lead the higher strings seemed to disappear. Not that it's a bad sounding pickups because it's not at all. Had the effect of a Rickenbacker. Great for rhythm, not so great for lead.

i have one in my tele and i love it. compared to a stock tele it has way more mids and output. its no where near as thick as a bucker, its still a tele pup so its got some bite and its still a single coil so it doesnt have mids like a bucker but its a tone that i really like

The lows and mids are very thick. The QP has an innate crunch tone, but can clean up fairly well. The QP like gain and has what I can only describe as a thump to the low end. I know what Mike is talking about because I had to monkey around with my height, and EQ to get mine to sound right to me.
I've got a (untapped) set in my tele and in the middle pos through my Vibro-Champ I can get some pretty twangy sounds. If I was doing it over I'd get the tapped versions, a bit more versatility. All that said I think I'm about to ditch my neck version for an Alnico 2 pro for tele.

I have a QP lead in my Lite Ash Tele and like it very much.
I'm going for a 70's rock tone with my tele. a tone that can cover Stones, to ZZ Top leves of gain, and still sound like a telecaster. The QP works well for this.
While it sounds like a Fender style single coil to me (YMMV) rolling the tone down while playing at loud volumes really brings out a strong honk in the lead pup. It's not a weak or thin sounding pickup at all.
I did have to lower the bass side to balance out the the string volume, but once you get in set right the high strings come threw fine.
It's probabaly not for tele purests, but if you looking for a stronger, fuller tone for rock'en it's grate.
