QP & Texas Specials?

Anybody have an opinion on a QP bridge with Texas Special neck & middle pickups?

I apologize for the gazillion "WTF should I do?" threads, but I'm at a crossroads. A big part of me wants to sell my Strat and get a PRS. More precisely, I want a PRS, and to get one, I have to sell my Strat. Every time I think this is the right move, I get the Strat out and get a little panicky at the idea of parting with it. I love this guitar, but aside from moving the TBX to the neck pickup, and the 2nd tone to the bridge, I've never changed anything on it.

I love all the pickups on their own, and love the neck & middle together. However, the bridge pickup doesn't seem to keep up with the neck. I think I'd like to try a QP or a Custom Custom in the bridge... maybe both. Basically, I need somebody to say, "You're f-ing nuts if you don't try some pickup swaps before getting rid of it. Even though getting rid of it means making a 25 year dream come true."

Thank you for tolerating my borderline insanity regarding this guitar :)

Re: QP & Texas Specials?

I'm a big fan of Texas specials in middle and neck, too. They came with a pearly Gates plus in Lone Star Strat, then came in a P90 in humbucker size, then SSL-6T and at least with custom made Texas special like single coil with a steel baseplate. I think i liked best the SSL-6 with a 500k volume pot and no tone control (forget about the tap!).

Re: QP & Texas Specials?

I have a QP with a tap and SSL-5 in middle. They're brilliant combo. The SSL-5 and QP full makes good thick growl, but with QP tapped that combo sounds best. Really good nice spank with grittiness. That's pretty much become my main tone.

Re: QP & Texas Specials?

If it's one of those true american PRSes that hang low enough to compete with popular Gibson products, or worse a PRS SE, don't be hasty to dump your trusty strat just yet

Theyre rather unmemorable.

Oh and dont fall for the sorta-stratlike looking recent models. They ARE memorable, for being hideous things with baseball bat necks
