I recently installed a Tone Zone in my Strat HSS. After using a DD for quite some time, I couldn't get past the whole ceramic magnet sound and opted to go with an Alnico V with a lot of character.
One thing that I seemed to notice about Dimarzio pickups is that they have something of a "quack," for lack of a better explanation, to them. To me, Seymours sound more liquidy, while Dimarzios sound more quacky (generalizing I know). This particular sound quality, in my opinion, seems to help separate notes in a fast run.
I was considering a CC, but I can't seem to get past this particular quality in the Tone Zone. Does anyone have any shredding clips with a CC, C5, or JB that could give me a better idea of how they sound in fast runs?
