for example the quality from the delay pedal "boss dd-6"
and the rack "tc electronic 2290".
or wah from a crybaby rack and wah from a crybaby pedal..
much difference?
Well, a DD-6'll cost you a few $$.
A 2290 will cost you a little under $2000 if I remember correctly.
Basically, with rack you get higher quality A/D D/A converters, a better proccessor, and generally more options, more flexibilty, and more control.
That said, a 2290 is old technology, and is a relatively limited unit. Some people still love it though.
A Dunlop Rack Wah runs about $650 and is a custom shop order. Basically, you get top of the line parts, and more tone control than you would get with a normal Dunlop or Vox wah.
The main advantage to a rack way (in my opinion) is that it's in your rack. Normally, if you have everything rack mounted, your wah is still on the floor, and you need to run cables from your rack, to the wah, and back again. With a rack wah, everything is contained in the rack, and you just run a remote to the floor, which dramatically cuts down tone loss.
In general, if you're looking for a single effect, pedals are the way to go.
If you're looking for multi-effects, rack is the way to go.
Both methods have advantages and disadvantages.
Many of the best rigs out there use both, just for that reason.
