quality tuners/machine heads...advice please

Re: quality tuners/machine heads...advice please

I've used both on several occasions and they'll both get the job done. It comes down to pretty much looks out of those 2. If I had to choose, I'd go for the Kluson tuners. I like the look and how they string up as opposed to modern tuners. More so on a strat than anything else.

Yeah, Klusons kick alot of ass! Best tuner bang for the buck IMO! I love how they string up too!

hey,

thanks. do you have any idea about sizes the holes in the headstock have to be?

also, i know the grover ones have a csrew hole obviously msrked but what about the kluson ones? do they have a csrew hole at all?

alos, could i change the 'tops' of the kluson ones at a later date if i wanted to?

thanks

Re: quality tuners/machine heads...advice please

Klusons often need a smaller hole. Don't let that stop you though, they do make adaptor bushings to fit vintage style tuners into a modern sized hole. As for mounting them. If you look at the pic, you'll see 2 notched edges on each side. That's where the mounting screw goes.

Just as a side note. Gotoh is now making Kluson style tuners that have graduated posts IIRC staggered.

hi,

if you look on this website:

http://www.axesrus.com/axemachine.htm

which of the items do i actually need? ive looked and they look like the right things but imnot quite sure myself.

would you go with the kluson over the grover then out or sheer quality? im jsut after a cheap-ish set of tuners that i can use (not botherd that i need to use string trees)and i just want to stay in tune haha.

i was jsut looking at them both as they are reputable makes.

Well, here's the thing bro. You're going to be using a non locking bridge. So QUALITY tuners and a properly cut nut are paramount to tuning stability. Cheap tuners have a tendency to have gearing that slips throwing you out of tune. It's my personal preference to use Klusons any time I can. Any good brand of tuners will work.

I also can't tell you what size bushing adapters you need. I don't know the hole size on your neck or the diameter of the posts on the tuners you'll be getting.

I've been thinking about getting new tuners too. What's good for an '07 Les Paul Studio? My main question is, can I get klusons, gotoh, or grover tuners with the same plastic gibson shape? I love the look of that shape, but it would be nice if I could get a solid white one instead of green tinged.

is there anything else i need to know about installing/using kluson at all?
