Question about allen wrench

I just bought a DiMarzio Super Distortion and it included a small allen wrench.
I know that it is used to adjust the poles on the pup, but I was wondering why one would need to do this. I measured the pup height and set it accordingly, so what difference do the poles make?

It probably is there just for an option if you want to match the pole piece heights to the string radius. For example, if you have a 7.25" vintage radius using the Super-D pup as is might mean the high and low e-strings are closer to the coils than the middle strings, which you could change if you wanted. It is sort of like flats versus staggered in single coil pups.
