Question about Antiquity fitting

I am going to have a set of Antiquity's put in my LP Classic along with a full setup at the hands of an area tech that comes highly recommended.

He really likes the Antiquity pair for the sound I am after.........warm, smooth, creamy, brown, natural amp based OD distortion. I also want a better balance between pickups. My homework (on this board mostly) came up with lots of great reviews. My guitar sounds thin and nasal-ish and brittle especially on the first three strings which is not working for me at all even with a Pearly Gates in the neck and a Custom Custom in the bridge.

I am not (yet) after the well-worn nickel look so he is going buff the covers and screws back to shiny to match other hardware on the guitar.

I know that these pups come with aged black rings as well but I intend to use the original cream colored rings that came with my guitar as new. You guys know if the rings are an exact size match like most other SD pickups are?

Thanks,

Re: Question about Antiquity fitting

I installed Antiquitys on my 97 Classic Premium Plus Honeyburst, and used the original cream rings.

I don't he's going to be able to make the Antiquity covers really, really shiny. I'd want to know if he's done that before. You can order Antiquitys with un-aged covers, which I thought about too, as my guitar is is very nice condition--but in the end, it didn't matter, and they look great.

Do you know who might stock un-aged covers? I'd want that if available. This guy implied it was easy to buff and that he had done it before but I paused for a sec on that one.

So how do you like those pickups in your classic?

Re: Question about Antiquity fitting

You can buy un aged nickle covers at almost any Duncan dealer, and FWIW, the stock pickup rings on youtr LP will fit with no problems...I kept the stock cream rings that came on my R8 with my Ant's. Also, FWIW...you'll LOVE them...easily one of my fav Bucker sets ever!

Re: Question about Antiquity fitting

The Antiquitys are the real deal. This is a very sweet sounding guitar. I have another LPCPP with the MF 50th Anniversary A2 Seths--very similar, but I do notice a "smokier, more complex" mid-range with the Ants. I love both.

Hey, if your guy can polish out the covers, that should be fine. I like the Ants' aged covers against the Honeyburst; the Anniversary Seths with their engraved covers go well with the classic CherryBurst on the other LPCPP.

OK. Now I am really getting wound up. My guitar looks amazing............soon it will sound amazing.

Re: Question about Antiquity fitting

Real nickel covers will age quickly.

It really all depends on how much you play it and how acidic your sweet is.

If you buy pickups with pristine nickel covers they will age really fast.

Unless you just leave it and look at it instead of playing it.

To me it's a waste of time trying to un-relic it.

It takes me a while to age nickle but I know guys that will actually rust hardware with their perspiration.
