Question about changing a nut

Worth doing if you've never done it before?
I'm planning on scoring a Graphtec nut for my Ibanez RG7421, but I have no idea how to even remove the current one, let alone put a new one on

Re: Question about changing a nut

I think graphtech nuts are a great way to get started into making nuts. I put one in one of my guitars and it sounds great and made intonation 1000% better. My advice is just go slow and it'll all be ok.

Mind you, I like my action quite a bit higher than most people so my experience trying to get the right height, etc may be different than yours.

I called his house a bazillion times last time, no answer hahaha

Re: Question about changing a nut

Buying a Warmoth set of files was one of the best puchases I've made. It allowed me to dial in the slots on all my guitars. Plus, I custom made some nuts, but had to throw away a few....just part of the learning curve.

Overall, real bone is bar none the best sounding nut. Smells gross when sanding, but it's really the best material. Second would be Tusq...imitation bone.

When removing a nut, doing careful work with a razor blade is how to do it. Fender type guitars are a breeze, but Gibson type guitars, where the nut is glazed over.....what a pain in the azz that is!!! Be careful with those, because prying things will lead to disaster.

Re: Question about changing a nut

Hmmm my guitar seems to have the Gibson type nut, not a Fender type. Strange seeing as how Ibanez RGs are based around strats, at least body wise
