Question about Marshall Plexi , JTM

I`ve been checking out some of the vintage style Marshall heads and I`ve always wondered about the 4 inputs on the face. Are they Hi , Lo type inputs? I have heard about jumping the inputs but how exactly does that work?

You have a bright channel with high and low inputs, and a "normal" channel with high and low inputs.

Jumping the channels is just plugging a cable from the high output normal channel input jack into the bright channel low input jack...then plug the guitar into the bright channel high output jack. I never personally cared much for that sound..but some do. It sounds more "muddy" and less "brilliant" to me.
