Question about matching tubes

i love everyone

So I recently traded in my silverface Bassman for a Peavey Butcher head, which so far does a lot of what the Bassman did for me plus a lot more available gain and volume. Overall, I'm very happy with the sound of it and it was an incredible bargain.

Anyway, I looked at the power tubes that are in it now. I know they were replaced fairly recently, and they're all JJ's, but there seem to be two matched pairs rather than a matched quad (two of the tubes have different-colored logos). My question is this: do the tubes in each pair go next to each other (i.e. one pair in the two left sockets and one pair in the right two) or is it one pair in the inside sockets and one pair in the outside sockets? Or does this not even matter very much?

Re: Question about matching tubes

What do you mean by matched? same manufactures? usually when people refer to a matched pair or a quad the mean the rating of the powertubes.

Re: Question about matching tubes

I mean the same manufacturer, same type, different sets of tubes. The two on the right are JJ's with red logos, and the two on the left are JJ's with silver logos.

Thanks Rich; one of them almost looked like it was red-plating a little last night, and maybe this will fix it. The amp doesn't have a bias pot, but it looks almost new so I doubt there's anything wrong with it that's making the tube run too hot besides maybe being mismatched.

Re: Question about matching tubes

That is not quite what is meant by the term "matched". It does not refer to brand or manufacture logo. Matched refers to the current that each tube draws in relation to the others. It is not something you can tell by looking at the tubes. Unless you know how to measure MA with a meter, you just have to rely on the tube manufactures word that the tubes you buy are "matched".
