Question about modifying a pickguard.

I've got a cream colored HSS Fender pickguard that I bought along with a Pearly Gates trembucker. I assumed that the pickguard would be tremspaced in the humbucker slot, but the PG doesn't fit. I was wondering if it was possible to maybe shave or sand down along the inside of the HB slot to make it wide enough to accommodate the trembucker? Or is there a technicality that makes this impractical?

Re: Question about modifying a pickguard.

The only issue I could think you'd have would be the screwholes in the TB not aligning properly, or partially overlapping the ones that are their already. That should be easy enough to check though by a facing them up to each other before you cut anything.

Re: Question about modifying a pickguard.

Place the PG over the bridge p'up route of the pick guard. If the screw holes on the pick guard and the screw holes on the PG lines up, then modify the HB route to fit the PG. If not, return or sell the pick guard and get a trem-spaced one if you plan on this strat having a tremelo bridge.

+ 1 When I tired to install the JB trembucker I had a similar issue. The screw holes on the pick guard and on the JB lined up perfectly. So i just went ahead and sanded the pick guard a little . Do it carefully though go slow and do it evenly. You don't want one side sanded more than the other.

Re: Question about modifying a pickguard.

I had to do it with my fender. use a block or a file (I used a 9v battery wrapped in sandpaper lol) and like jocelyn said go slow and even.

Re: Question about modifying a pickguard.

Use a small flat file. be careful & keep checking it as you go. Should be fine
