It could well be a connection to the series link. If you have a multimeter, measure the DC resistance from the braid to the yellow, and then from the hot to the yellow. Finally, measure from braid to hot. If it's the series link, the last measurement will be pretty much equal to the sum of the previous two.
If it is that, you can ground the yellow wire to split to the slug coil, or connect the yellow wire to hot output to split to the screws.
