question about my 59 sh-1n

I have a sh-1n.. And Along with the braded wire is a yellow wire. what the heck is that yellow wire for? Ive never see that before.. Anyone seen this before or know what is the deal? thanks ron

I've never seen a 59 with a yellow wire, but it could be a coil tap on one of the coils.

It could well be a connection to the series link. If you have a multimeter, measure the DC resistance from the braid to the yellow, and then from the hot to the yellow. Finally, measure from braid to hot. If it's the series link, the last measurement will be pretty much equal to the sum of the previous two.

If it is that, you can ground the yellow wire to split to the slug coil, or connect the yellow wire to hot output to split to the screws.

That's definitely a home-brew "tap", for purposes of splitting the humbucker.

As long as its there, I'd do this: (You'll need a meter.) Connect the ground lead to the yellow wire and the red to the braid. Put the meter on AC volts. (Lowest range.) Bring a screwdriver up against one set of pole pieces and then yank it away. See which coil gives the greatest voltage reading. Now move the red meter lead to the center conductor of the braided wire. Do the same procedure with the screwdriver and each coil. Make note of which coil gave you the strongest readings, and you'll know which coil is connected between yellow/braid and yellow/hot.

hi there. Yes I beleave I understand that. I will try to do it correctly. But before I do. I actualy don't want that in there. I just want it stock no splitting. So what should I look for and do to make sure I get it connected back to just what its suppose to be? ron

Insulate the yellow wire and don't use it.

Artie 2.. ok. So as long as I don't hook it up to anything and insulate it. It should just act like a normal pickup. correct?

Correct. (Assuming that it is connected at the pup to the coil wires which would have become the red and white wires in a 4 cond. pup...which is a very good assumption). So just do as Artie2 suggested. You should be just fine.
