Question About New Stacks

It says in the description of the new noisless stack pickups that they have a 3 conducter cable to allow for to allow for a true single coil mode.

This is probably a question for Frank.

What would be the purpose of this?
Would the pickups sound exactly like the regular single coils in this mode?

Re: Question About New Stacks

Yes. The wiring of the new noiseless stacks is to permit true single coil mode. According to the Wiring Instructions, the purpose of this is to enable true single coil but still noise-cancelling Strat sounds in selector switch positions 2 and 4. (The centre pickup in a set of three is RP/RW relative to the bridge and neck position units.)

Reading this backwards, however, leads one to conclude that, in dual coil mode, the sounds from these pickups have been deemed NOT to be "true" single coil sounds.

I tried noiseless stacks but soon reverted to my 1985 APS-1s.

Re: Question About New Stacks

Yeah thats how I read it as well.

Frank Falbo claims that the stacks come very very close to the regular single coils so Im not sure why they offer that option.

I have a Hot Stack Plus in the bridge of my strat which is wound like the SSL-3.

It sounds great but Ive never played an SSL-3.

It would be interesting if someone would A/B the stacks with the SSL series.
