Shape and size plus pole spread are the important measurements for covers. If those are matched I can't see why not......but not knowing the pegasus I don't know anything specific though.
Tonally a good quality cover will only tame the highs a fraction.

A plastic cover should be magnetically invisible. Be aware that you won't be able to solder it on though. Not sure how plastic covers would be attached to the baseplate.
Good quality metal covers will only have a tiny effect on the tone - the ones you need to watch out for are the cheap import covers. Anything from mojotone should be just fine.
As mentioned above, make sure you get one that fits your specific pickup since not all humbuckers are the same size.
And get a good quality cover - metal ones do come in matte black.

I wish somebody sold brushed chrome covers.
Been thinking about trying Scotchbrite on a nickel plate set; some say that works pretty well.

Sounds like an awesome idea! I would make sure to be well away from the pickups when you do that and make sure to wipe them down really good before installing them, though, so no metallic dust gets in your pickups.

There are two common types of metal used for covers, brass and nickel silver. Brass is what is found on cheap pickups. Nickel Silver is what is found on nicer pickups, including most Seymour Duncan pickups. If you have a brass cover, eddy currents will cause the pickup to sound darker, but if you have a nickel silver cover, it will sound no different than if you have no cover. The only exception is if the nickel silver cover is especially thick, as has been the case with some Gibson covers. For a typical Seymour Duncan humbucker, it will sound the same with or without the cover.

Yup. I'm debating whether to try the regular green ones I have around the house or to buy red, which is coarser. I have a feeling the green might be a little too fine for this application.
