Question about pickup storage

Pickups come in cardboard boxes or plastic cases, right? and the magnetic fields of the pickups aren't limited to the containers, right?

So does stacking/moving/storing pickups in their boxes have any effect on the long term life & health of the pickups? Could they sit side-by-side or one on top of another for years and not have any negative effect? Or is there some possibility of degradation?

Re: Question about pickup storage

All magnets lose magnetism over time. I think as long as you don't store them next to a really strong neo magnet, or near a big transformer, you'd be ok. At the factory, there are stacked up boxes of pickups. Even the Custom Shop has boxes of pickups stored in drawers.

Re: Question about pickup storage

I had a strat pup that lost it's charge. It was stored in a drawer for a few months with a humbucker magnet stuck to it with out me knowing it. I pulled it out and at first thought the polarity had magically changed from north up to south up. (I tested it against 2 others from the set and the top of the suspect pickup attracted the top of the other 2, which shouldn't happen because it was a straight up set that did not have a RWRP middle) Then I tried to stick it to the fridge and realized it had just lost it's charge. Didn't think a humbucker magnet could do that...

Same answer as I posted in The Bassment.
