Question about the Jazz neck

People say it's bright, but do you think it'll be too bright in a mahogany body w/ maple cab, bolt on maple neck with ebony fingerboard, 25.5" 22 frets, tone pro bridge (strings thru' body) ?

I've already heard the JB in this kind of guitar (except it didn't have maple cab, but the luthier says the maple cab does almost nothing to the sound, he says it's 90% looks) and the JB didn't seem harsh, shrill or anything.. It sounded very warm, and the people I've talked to says Mahogany is a dark wood, so do you think the Jazz neck would be less bright in this guitar, and would the guitar warm it up a bit?

So could I expect warm and articulate singing leads under distortion? Would I be able to get cool 80's sounding leads? How is it voiced compared to the JB under gain? And what about the cleans? Do you know any songs/bands you could make a referance to, regarding some lead sounds etc.?

I'm sorry to ask this much, I've only heard a couple of clips, but everyone recommends the Jazz neck (which I have decided on for my new guitar together with the JB in bridge, as most of you probably know from my little 'dilemma' topic). And I know many of you have the Jazz neck.

You keep asking...

Think the Jazz it is used in Jackson Guitars which are made maple body, maple neck. Thoose are brighter guitars than yours...

And many people are perfectly happy with them.

If you want my advice sometimes we think pickups are more important than they really are. For most of the people they only need the pickups to reproduce all their playing nuances, so it should be a hi-fi device. And to be versitile and for that should not to have an extreme eq. or output. Then they try to set their amp and pedals to mach their needs.

Only a few, which most of them are in this forum , love to experiment with hunderds of differents pickups to see the subtle nuances between them.

The Jazz/Jb combo it is a great one, don't worry. Just try it, play and enjoy.

Thanks for your advice, and I guess you are right.. The reason why I'm asking is just because I'm trying to make a impression of how it is gonna sound before I get it (of course I can't get a totally good picture of it, since I haven't heard it with MY ears, and MY guitar, and MY amp).

I can't wait to get some pictures of the finished guitar, and see what people think about it, even though I expect most people not to like it, it'll still be cool seeing in what ways they will react. It sure is unique, and that's what I like about it.

I can understand too.... I ordered my JB in December and got it in mid Feb... dont worry I am sure ur axe will sound good... I have simlar project on hand Mahogany body maple nack, but with a rosewood fretboard and tremlo( yet to decide bettwen floyd or wilkinson) jb jazz

In your guitar it will work fine because the Jazz is not really bright , it has a lot of treebles but plenty of bass as well and enough mids to cut ( no scoop here ) in clarity .
It is the best neck humb i've tried , it can do harmonics well , very fast pick attack , sound like malmsteen under gain and very beautiful clean .
So now you just climb the wall 'cause you can't wait one more day !!!:yell:

Right now I have the JB in flying V clone.... and it sounds good

I'm not a high output sort of guy, but I love the Jazz. It does have more treble than a '59, but I think it is a very warm sounding neck pickup.

Every piece of wood is different but assuming your typical maple and ebony, plus the longer scale, the Jazz might be a little on the shrill side in that set-up.

I prefer pickups with a little more meat and semi-rounded highs anyway so take that with a grain of salt. But if you're with me on that and want my opinion, I'd say a CC bridge with Seth or Alnico 2 Pro neck...
