question about the JB

i have dimarzios in my strat now, and i love my dark tone and feel in my rig. the thing that i realize that i dont really like my bridge pickup (steve's special) but i love the neck pickup (pro track. extremely sweet). the thing about the bridge pickup is that it does not have enough CRUNCH.

would the JB do the trick for me? but i am afraid that it will give me a classic metal bright tone which is good but not what i am after for this guitar.

if not, could you recommmend me a pickup that has a great crunch sound and also darker sounding/feeling?

thanks!

Re: question about the JB

hmm, the JB is a bright sounding pup taht will give u lots of crunch under gain, but as for what u want i think the DD would be a better choice for you or the Custom.
Many players here love the JB DD and Custom for its 'tighter' tone and crunch under gain.

Re: question about the JB

hmm.. the DD or the custom.. would they give me a dark tone? :D? dark + crunch is what im looking for :D

Re: question about the JB

The DD isn't too dark, I have it in mohogany and love how clear and defined everything is, and the tight bass under high gain, but it is fairly bright. What is your guitar made of (wood wise)? That'd help us help you a bit better.

Re: question about the JB

The Custom works well fro what you describe. Another option might be the Invader, though it has a ton more output than the Custom or the JB.

Re: question about the JB

its alder wood. but that cannot stop me from brightness! i dont know. but how i set my laney (which i heard was supposed to be bright) with the SD-1 (which zakk wylde uses so it should be kinda dark) with my BLACK guitar (ahah) ..well its kinda dark. Canare cables as well<-- darker :P

ok i'll check out some clips of the custom! any other suggestions?

what does the amount of output do? whats the difference? (sorry im noob in pups!)

Re: question about the JB

i just listened to some of the SD clips. actually the custom still sounds pretty bright to me. and yeah maybe..all SDs are more of a classic metal/rock tone yeah?

but i theink the duncan distortion sounds pretty cool and dark...

edit actually i tihnk the custom sounds cool too..haha cant decide

ok which would you say have a SWEETER lead tone. is there such thing as sweet + crunch? or asre they opposites :S

WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR IS ACTUALLY A GOOD PUP FOR SHRED. NOT METAL SHRED. SOMEWHAT A TONE GOOD FOR SHREDDING SUCH AS SATRIANI, STEVE VAI, JOHN PETRUCCI, ETC. but then i think the bridge dimarzio models are MUDDY. SDs are clear and clean. but i DO NOT want the bright crunchy tone that is good for metal and classic rock.

i.e. i am kinda doubting if seymour duncan is the right pickups for me...
(i would be grateful if anyone recommened me another brand.. (preferrably NOT dmiarzio)

Re: question about the JB

Yes, i have a DD/JB combo and I have the best of both worlds. With the DD, i have the nice chunky sound and with the JB, the nice, bright, clear, I'll solo till the sun goes down, great tone lol. But in your case, I would go with a DD if you want a "darker sound" or as some mention, a custom.

Re: question about the JB

I'd go against the JB- I don't find it to be a "dark" pickup, particularly if you think the Custom is too bright. But it is clear and clean, for sure.
