Question about the Kemper amps

Hello i was thinking in buying a kemper one day for practicing jamming and live playing.

What are the differences between the 2 models ?

Can i use a cabinet on the head or does it only works with the powerhead ?

Re: Question about the Kemper amps

You need the powered one to power a cab. The one without power is for running direct, recording, or plugging into a power amp.

Re: Question about the Kemper amps

A Kemper will aways sound exactly like a Kemper.

This distinctiveness, for a modeller, means that it really really sucks.

To you.
Obviously, there are plenty of others who disagree.

Re: Question about the Kemper amps

I don't really agree a friend profiled my bray 4550 i couldn't tell the difference between the kemper and the real amp. That's why i thought about buying one. The only thing that differs is the way it reacts when you play it but if you only care about the tone it's a good choice.

Absolutely true. It sounds like listening to a recording of the amp. It doesn't sound like a live amp in a room. I bet running the preamp thru a tube power amp would help a bit but, even if it's the best modeller you can get this year, it's got all of the same issues modellers have always had.

I still prefer real amps but lots of people like the endless options and tweakability. I have 4 tube heads that are basically the same and 3 different tube amps that are basically the same so your mileage may vary :smokin:

I agree with this!

Re: Question about the Kemper amps

If you want something close and it has the amp models you're looking for, Peavey Vypyr has much much better bang for the buck.

Fairly accurate and polished models, and priced 7-15x cheaper so you're less likely to rage out, hopd a grudge, or worse yet force yourself to try to like it if you don't mesh with it.

Re: Question about the Kemper amps

Are there any amps out there that are a pure tube curcuit only with digital fx built in?
Possibly the best of both worlds right there.

Thats not what a modeller is supposed to do.

If you want a multi-effector unit in front of a tube amp that you like, just buy the two and save yourself a grand & a lot of grief in the process

While it's not precisely what you're talking about, my Bogner Alchemist is close. True Bogner designed tube amp, with some Line 6 efx's built in. Mainly just some cool reverbs and delays. Sounds great, and reasonably priced due to the Line 6 connection.

Fender Champ XD is like that as well I think.

Edit: Reason that those aren't very usual is probably because what Adieu said. Tube amp with fx loop lets you drop in what effects or fx processor you want. Much more versatile.
